Served as guard for women and children fleeing Gonzales before the approach of Santa Anna, 1836. Is burried on his 4,428 acre land grant extending south from this site. "

That's so neat! I love history and such. :) Everytime I see one of those historic signs on the side of the road, I have to stop and read it (and snap a photo if I have my camera). The name Dewitt explains Dewitt county--which is where my husband's grandparents live. And I am guessing this sign is in/near Gonzales? Thanks for sharing!
